Cairo and Mansoura Universities shared the first position in the ‘Best Eco-friendly University’ competition for the academic year 2022/2023 which was organized the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
This is the second time in a row for Cairo University to occupy the top rank in the contest.
Ain Shams University came in the second position, while Assiut University ranked the third.
Beni Suef University won an incentive award as a nascent university, grouping a number of distinguished faculties.
The competition aims to encourage Egyptian universities to become green through assessing commitment to developing an eco-friendly infrastructure, transition for energy and climate efficiency, adhering to waste and water management standards, etc.
Marking the occasion, Cairo University President Mohamed Othman Elkhosht said Cairo University advanced in the global classification of eco-friendly green universities in sustainable development for the year 2022-2023, and won first place among public universities, second in Africa, and the 270th place globally out of 1050 universities worldwide.
He explained that Cairo University’s strategy in transforming into a fourth-generation university focused on the environmental system and encouraging scientific research in the field of sustainability, preserving the environment, and limiting the effects of climate change.
Mansoura University President Sherif Khater said the competition encourages universities to improve their performance in the field of environment sustainability and adopting initiatives and projects aiming to protect the environment.
The Mansoura University seeks to be eco-friendly in addressing several files, including waste and water management, scientific researches, etc in addition to adhering to Egypt Vision 2030.
