The European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will impose a cost on carbon emissions for imported goods starting in 2026. This development could significantly disrupt trade flows between Egypt, North Africa, and the EU, particularly since EU-bound exports account for approximately 25% of Egypt’s total exports. The implementation of the CBAM presents both challenges and opportunities, as the region grapples with its impact on key industries and the broader economic landscape.
