EMC Managing Director: Circular economy one of most prominent modern economic systems

Prasad Modak, Managing Director of Environmental Management Center (EMC) Pvt. Ltd., said the circular economy is considered one of the most prominent modern economic systems, aiming to eliminate waste and maximize benefit from available resources.

He affirmed that transitioning from a consumption-oriented model to a generative model has become an exigency to ensure environmental and economic sustainability.

He made the remarks during the 7th Forum on Strategies for Transition to Green Economy – dubbed the 7th Green Economy Forum – which kicked off on Tuesday under the theme of “The Transition C-Panel”.

The EMC managing director highlighted the importance of efficient use of resources in light of global environmental challenges.

He noted that many world countries have come to realize the importance of the circular economy and adopted effective policies for recycling and transitioning towards more sustainable development models.

Standing on the initiatives implemented in Egypt in this regard, Modak highlighted tangible efforts and great potential in this field, calling for expediting the adoption of a number of international recommendations to support the shift to a circular economy.

He pointed out that the European Union, in the early 2000s, launched a series of recommendations aimed at rationalizing resource consumption and controlling trade to ensure cutting carbon emissions. Moreover, countries such as China and Japan have taken pioneering steps in applying the circular economy model.

He asserted that the world is witnessing continuous development in international concepts and standards supporting this drive.

He noted that three new ISO certifications related to the circular economy have recently been launched, reflecting the global trend towards integrating this economic model into national policies.
