The 7th Forum on Strategies for Transition to Green Economy – commonly dubbed the 7th Green Economy Forum – kicked off on Tuesday under the theme of “The Transition C-Panel”, with the participation of United Nations Special Envoy for Financing Sustainable Development Mahmoud Mohieldin.
The forum tackles the economic, social and environmental benefits of sustainability in Egypt in lights of visions of CEOs and business leaders.
It explores investment opportunities as Egypt turns to a green economy. It also examines challenges and proposes policies and solutions contributing to accelerating and strengthening the adoption of sustainable business practices.
Dr. Hassan Mostafa, CEO of CSR Egypt and head of the forum, said that organizing the forum comes within the framework of the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the national efforts exerted by the Egyptian government and development partners to prioritize projects and programs for the transition to a green economy, support climate action, and enhance development partnerships between the private sector and international and regional development institutions. This is meant to achieve green and sustainable growth and promote the implementation of Egypt National Climate Strategy 2050.
He added that Egypt is going through a crucial stage in its march towards sustainable development, as several key sectors—such as agriculture, energy, transport, and construction—are witnessing significant changes aligning with national and global sustainability goals.
He underlined that the shift toward green practices is no longer merely an environmental necessity, but rather a promising opportunity for growth, especially as investments increase in clean energy, circular economy models, and sustainable infrastructure.
He pointed out the growing importance of switching to a green economy, referring to the efforts of the Egyptian state and the business sector in this regard.
He highlighted the implementation of about 65% of the recommendations proposed during the forum’s previous editions, calling for swift action to address challenges in this vital field.
The forum brings together various stakeholders from the public and private sectors, international organizations, and sustainability experts to discuss the integration of visions to achieve a sustainable green transformation.
It also addresses mechanisms for tapping new markets and increasing export rates, in addition to reviewing the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) guideline, export reporting requirements, international conditions, and sectors expected to be affected.
This year, the forum focuses on how companies can integrate sustainable practices into their operations while ensuring profitability, resilience, and long-term growth.
The forum also showcases experiences and success stories from various sectors, such as agriculture, manufacturing, transportation, construction, energy, and circular economy.
The forum’s agenda also includes panel discussions with experts on the certifications required for exportation, national circular economy policies, green financing, and the role of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) investments in expediting successful shift.
It is worth mentioning that the forum is considered one of the leading interactive platforms for the business community pursuing green growth.
Over the six previous editions, held under the patronage of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and in cooperation with various ministries and institutions, the forum has succeeded in consolidating Egypt’s position as a regional leader in the field of sustainability. It has also introduced mechanisms demonstrating how companies can contribute to economic growth while achieving national and global climate goals.
